A Little Kid Kept Alive By 10,000 Pints of Blood a Month

His name is Billy Galacher. He needs 10,000 Pints of Blood a Month or 120,000 Pints of blood a year to stay alive after being hit by an incredibly rare illness

Life of Billy Gallacher, 6 years old boy, changed after suffering a rare disease. For the sake of survival, he needs 120 thousand Pints of blood per year.

Billy suffers from a disease that can cause bleeding nose for 90 minutes and suffers bruising and bleeding just because holding his mother’s hand. From the results of medical examinations, he is diagnosed gets Thrombocytopenia cycle. Sufferers are only one person among a million people. People with this disorder will experience excessive bleeding.

To treat and make him to have a normal life, Billy needs a blood transfusion with specific proteins. The difficulty is blood proteins that the body of Billy needs is found only in a small number of donors.
To be able to survive and live with a normal life, Billy takes 10 thousand liters of blood per month. Billy’s mother, Dawn, 28, said, “Billy’s body will be bruised and bleeding throughout the body when you hold him. He cannot do anything. Even it is dangerous for him to climb the bench. I am very grateful to everyone who donated their blood. It takes a large amount of blood to help to save his life and make him has a normal life,” as quoted by The Sun.
The Boy from Todmorden, West Yorks routinely visits Calderdale Royal Hospital for a blood transfusion for ten hours.
Blood transfusions are needed to increase the number of platelets in the blood to be able to clot normally. Without it, he could not stem the bleeding if injured. If a donor is only able to give one liter of blood, in the year Billy needs help of 120 thousand people.
UK National Blood Donor Services, Pam Prescott said, “Billy is one of the reasons why we need to keep the blood stock. We always need new donors.”
