Fashion designer Victoria Beckham, who is heavily pregnant with her fourth child, chose gravity-defying Christian Louboutin heels that bordered on fetishistic. A stunning hat by Philip Treacy topped off her navy draped dress, which is one of her own designs.

2. Samantha Cameron

The Prime Minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron, chose a silk pleated dress by British label Burberry, which she accessorised with a dazzling orange scarf, a statement necklace and hair-slide both by Erickson Beamon, and shoes by high street retailer Aldo.

Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, wife of deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, opted for Forties-style glamour in a polka dot layered dress and a dramatic turban hat adorned with large red flowers.
