An underground lake or a subterranean lake is a lake under the surface of the Earth's crust. 1. Reed Flute


This lake was discovered during the reign of the Tang dynasty over 1300 years ago. The cave is located five kilometers northwest of Guilin. The name of this cave is translated as “cave reed flutes. It got its name from the green reeds that grow outside of which people did the flute. In this shattered water cave spectacular world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations.

2. Cheddar Gorge Lake


Lake Cheddar Gorge is an underground lake in a cave who is located in one of the largest gorge in England named Cheddar Gorge. In Lake Cheddar oldest human skull was discovered in England in 1903 an estimated 9000 years old.


3. Hamilton Lake


This small lake was created when thousands of years ago, the dome of the cave collapsed due to erosion. It is located 37 kilometers west of Austin in Texas and attracts a large number of naturalists, travelers and tourists. One of the most interesting features of this lake is 14 meter waterfall, which during heavy rains falls with the collapse of a set of caves.

4. Luray Caverns Lake

This small lake was discovered in 1986 in one of the oldest caves in Britain, called Wookey Hole. 

6. Lechuguilla Cave Lake

This lake is located in underground of Mellisani Cave, Kefalonia. The lake was found due to the ruins of the cave integument destroyed by an earthquake in 1953.

This underground lake is located in a cave near the Mexican town of Izamal in the state of Yucatan. Mayan tribes who lived in these areas, considered it a subterranean lake gift of the gods, and therefore it was sacred.
